What is a møsbrømlefse?

The dish is a specialty from Salten. For the locals møsbrømlefse is more than an ordinary dish. It is a symbol of belonging and identity! In other words an iconic dish!

What does the dish consist of?

It consists of a lefse containing different types of flour, butter, syrup, cultured/kefir milk, water salt and horn salt. The lefsen is fried on a traditional «takke". «Møsbrøm» (the brown filling) consists of brown cheese, whole milk and sugar  or syrup.

How is it served

The lefse is first filled with møsbrøm before a spoonful of sour cream and a spoonful of butter are added. The whole thing is heated up on the "takke" and then the lefse is folded into the classic Møsbrømlefsefold.

How do you eat møsbrømlefse?

Traditionally, the dish is eaten with the hands! Tear off a corner and lift up, then dip it into the «møsbrøm". It is of course allowed to use a knife and fork!
